Now that you are a new member of SSDAC you will be keen to make the next steps and start participating in competitions. Along with this new experience comes the fun of acquiring competition attire and the guidelines below will hopefully help you make the right choices when buying. We are sure you have lots of questions about what are you allowed to wear and where can you purchase all of these items.

The SSDAC Clothing Committee have compiled the following information in accordance with SSDAC and all the relevant governing bodies within the Ballroom & Latin community (mainly the BDC) which require certain standards, not only within the discipline of the dance style, but the age group and category which your child will dance in.

There are 2 child age categories:

Juvenile Under 12rs of age
Junior Between 12yrs and up to, but not including, 16yrs

Within these age groups there are different grades for amateurs:

Juvenile - Social, Beginner, Novice, Advanced.
Junior - Social, Beginner, Novice, Open (Pre-Championship, Championship).

So to understand more about what you will need to acquire for your child you need to know what age group your child will be dancing in and what grade/level of ability. To help you with the answer, to date all new competitors within SSDAC have started at the Beginners grade.
