April 2011 – SSDAC Secures first major SPONSOR

Access Care is a domiciliary care agency originally set up in Andover in 1994. They provide nationwide live in and hourly care services to people over the age of 18 who cannot wholly look after themselves and wish to remain as independent as possible within their own homes and community. For more information please click the logo above.

Following our invitation to attend a recent competition in Birmingham to watch some of our couples competing, Judie Tighe, Managing Director of Access Care said "she really enjoyed her day and she looks forward to seeing everyone dance in the near future".

We are delighted to announce that Access Care have now provided a significant level of sponsorship funding to benefit the members of the SSDAC. In the first instance, funding will be used to support the educational training and development needs of our competing members as well as to reduce the costs associated with competition entry and private tuition. We thank Access Care and are enormously grateful for their support and continuing interest!!!

April 2011 – SSD Ltd & SSDAC New Lesson Structure

As you are no doubt aware SSD Ltd strives to offer the best service possible whilst creating a learning environment for children that ensures a suitable path for progression is available. With the introduction of the SSDAC (Strictly School Dancing Amateur Club) which is registered with the English Amateur Dancesport Association (EADA) we now have this firmly in place. Our strategic aims for 2011 and beyond are to ensure that all children receive the correct level of tuition and focus based upon their current and future ability. We aim to grow the SSDAC membership over the next three years to 100 (50 couples) by promoting children into the competitive world of Dancesport based upon their own personal desire and their capability in Ballroom and Latin American dance.

Whilst many children want to compete, some dance socially or just for fun and will never wish to compete. SSDAC provides the ultimate support infrastructure for children who wish to and are capable of competing, whilst other lessons will continue to provide a feed for new SSDAC members, they will also provide a suitable and stable environment for those wishing to dance for fun. More information regarding the SSDAC will be published on our website soon, though if you have questions in the meantime please feel free to ask either Neil, Sarka or any member of the executive committee.

March 2011 – SSDAC is affiliated with EADA

The SSDAC is now officially an affiliated club with EADA (The English Amateur Dancesport Association). EADA is the only organisation run by Amateurs for Amateurs in this country and has a child protection and equity policy. EADA is the only English dancesport organisation recognised by Sport England, UK Sport and the National Olympic Committee.

SSD-Bay

SSD-Bay has been a huge success, so much so that we have not even had time to list all the items sold on our website! Remember, if you have dance wear and shoes that are now too small or surplus to requirements, just pass them to Neil and Sarka and we will sell them on your behalf so you can put the money towards those new items you've had your eyes on!

Certification

Congratulations to the Saturday team who all received their first certificates of achievement in Ballroom and Latin American dancing. The children have worked very hard to attain excellent grades ranging between grade 2 to grade 5 and should feel very satisfied with the effort and commitment that they have shown.

SSD are introducing certification based upon the following scale of achievement (this is very similar to the IDTA Dance Education Syllabus standards). Our certification is as follows: (Juvenile/Junior/Youth/Adult) Level 1-5, Bronze, Bronze Plus, Silver, Gold, Gold Plus. All children who dance with SSD will be awarded certificates based upon their achievement against the above certification standards.

Ravenscote Junior School

Ravenscote Junior School in Frimley, Camberley, Surrey has recently joined the SSD program with an unprescedented response. With 50 students wishing to join the lesson, this has lead to a waiting list and the option for an additional lesson to be held subject to agreement with the school as the Year 3 group will also inevitably provide additional pupils.

“SSD - Dance Bay”

SSD are considering the creation of a portal on its website allowing parents to sell used dancewear including footwear at cut down prices. Due to the fast rate of growth of most children many items become unusable very quickly yet remain in perfect condition for re-use by another.

This service is about to go live!

“LETS DANCE”

WOW! What a fantastic SSD production at Castle Hill Junior School in July 2009 with over 100 dancers participating in our special fundraising shows for the school over two seperate nights. The audience of more than 150 paying guests per night were treated to a dance spectacular as the children from CHJS performed routines to classic hits including:

The late Michael Jackson and Thriller, Poker Face by Lady Ga Ga, The Rednex - Cotton Eyed Jo, Grease Lightning from the hit movie, Christina Aguillera’s Candyman, a routine for the Mambo, the English Waltz, the Jive & the Cha Cha (performed by SSD club dancers)

Lets Dance!
Apart from being a huge success, it was 90F on both nights - HOT, HOT HOT. Remember those 3 days? Despite the heat, the chidren, the staff and the audience were amazing!

Well done to Year 3 and Year 6 pupils at CHJS. Watch this space for more of productions in 2010!
